Entrance Tickets:

  • Program is FREE for NETS Members and their families.

  • Non-members pay $5 per person.

  • Children under 5 free.

  • NETS Members will have first preference for participation.

    1. Fancy Dress:

 All performances must be in Tamil. If the performance requires music, please send them as  soon as possible .

      • Fancy Dress is open to all children up to 5 years. Each Fancy Dress performance will be given a   maximum of 3 minutes duration which will be strictly enforced.

Any participant who is above 5 years   will be considered as Talent Show Participant.

      • Performances will be selected on first come first serve basis.


      2. Talent Show:

           All performances must be in Tamil. If the performance requires music, please send them as               

            soon as  possible . Lyrics should be only in Tamil.

  • Talent Show is open to all children up to 16 years. Each Talent Show performance will be given a maximum of 5 minutes duration which will be strictly enforced.

  • Participants are expected to exhibit their unique talents within the given time limit.

  • Performances will be selected on first come first serve basis.

  • Talent Show participant cannot participate in any other programs except Thirukkural, Tamil Engal Moochu and Varthai Vilaiyattu.


3.   Thirukkural Competition:


  • Thirukural recitation competition is open to all kids from 5 - 12 years of age. This is open for all kids including those who participate in other programs.

  • There will be set of Thirukkurals to memorize (see below for details). The number of Kurals will vary for each age group.

  • Participants will be asked to recite the random selection of Kurals from their respective sets.

  • The Judges will decide the number of Kurals to ask for each age Group.

  • There will be only one one round for the participants in each age group.

  • Confirmation mails will not be sent to the participants of Thirukkural Recitation competition. All the kids who have registered for the competition can be considered as confirmed participants.

  • Participants of Thirukkural Competition can participate in other programs based on their rules.

Ages 5 & 6:

  • There will be 1 chapter (Adhigaram) to memorize for this group.

  • Chapter 1.1.1 -(அதி-கடவுள் வாழ்த்து) (1-10)

  • The participants will be asked to recite by giving the starting word of the Thirukkural.

  • If there is a tie for the first 3 places, the participants will be asked to recite the kurals by giving the last word.

  Ages 7 & 8 :

  • There will be 2 chapters (Adhigaram) to memorize for this group

  • Chapter 2.1.5 -(அதி-அறிவுடைமை ) (421-430)

  • Chapter 1.1.2 -(அதி-வான்சிறப்பு) (11-20)

  • The participants can be asked to recite the Thirukkurals by giving the first word.

  • If there is a tie for the first 3 places, the participants will be asked to recite the kurals by giving the last word.


 Ages 9 - 12:

  • There will be 2 chapters (Adhigaram) to memorize for this group

    • Chapter 1.2.19  -(அதி-ஈகை) (221-230)

    • Chapters 1.2.5 -(அதி- விருந்தோம்பல்) (81-90)

  • The participants can be asked to recite the Thirukkurals by giving the first word or last word.

  • If there is a tie for the first 3 places, the participants will be asked to recite the meaning of kurals in Tamil.


 ** Judges decisions for winners will be final!

 


4.  Tamil Engal Moochu (Tamil Speech, Poem Recitations)

                     All performances must be in Tamil. Lyrics should be in Tamil        

  • Tamil Engal Moochu is not a competition. Tamil Engal Moochu comprises of Tamil Speech, Poem (Seyyul) Recitations. Poem recitations can be from Thirukkural, Bharathi Poems, Bharathi Dasan Poems, Kamba Ramayanam, etc… Cannot be anything political.

  • Tamil Speech is open to all children up to 16 years. You can choose your own topic. You will be given 5 minutes duration which will be strictly enforced.

  • Participants of Tamil Engal Moochu can participate in other programs based on their rules.

  

5.   Vaarthai Vilaiyattu:


   In an effort to introduce new and quality programs, NETS brought this game show last

   year, conducted in a  jeopardy format. We got very good positive feedback about this  

   program. Hence following this year as well.

  • Vaarthai Vilaiyaatu is not a competition.

  • Kids of ages between 6 and 16 can participate in this group.

  • This is open for all kids participating in other programs as well.

  • There will be 4 teams, participants will be allotted in the 4 teams based on random selection.

  • Participants of Vaarthai Vilaiyattu can participate in other programs based on their rules.

  • This segment is first come first serve basis. NETS will place the participants in the above said 4 teams and it is the discretion of NETS about the maximum participants in the group.

  • If we have more participants, NETS has the right to close the registration.

 

Game Format and Categories:

This program will have multiple categories as follows.

      • Reading. Read the words or small sentences provided with correct pronunciation.  Reading will be provided only on the stage during the event and it may or may not be part of the syllabus. Words will be chosen based on the age of the participating kids.

      • Translation - English to Tamil and Tamil To English

      • Antonyms

      • Identify from the picture provided.

      • Identify a word from a connected word.

      • Word Game / Spelling. Rearrange jumbled letters. Find as many words from the list of letters

      • Fill in the blanks using Proverbs.

      • Rhyming words

      • “Kuril - Nedil” -  may be asked to provide english translation for these words.

      • Join the words to form a meaningful sentence using the past, present or future tense.

      • Each question will carry same amount of marks except few questions that may carry double points and some may carry triple points.

      • Answers are expected within 30 seconds.

      • If a team gives the wrong answer, the next team will get a chance only if answered within 30 seconds ( within music time)

      • No negative points for wrong answers.

      • NETS will make sure about all teams getting equal chance.

      • If there is a tie, questions out of syllabus will be asked.

      • More logistic detail will be explained to the kids before the segment on the event day.

6.  Tamil Isai: (New in NETS)


  • Tamil Isai is not a competition.

  • All performances must be in Tamil.

  • Participants must be in the age of 6 to 16.

  • Songs should be Tamil based – in the genre (classical, semi-classical, film songs).

  • No Solo allowed.

  • Minimum participants for the Tamil Isai are 3. No limits for maximum participants.

  • Please talk with your respective Music Teachers to perform as a group.

  • Participant group (Individual Group/Group from Musical School will be given a slot

            of 10  minutes.

  • Participant in Tamil Isai cannot participate in any other programs except Thirukkural, Tamil Engal Moochu and Varthai Vilaiyattu.

 

 

7.  Tamil Naadagam: (New in NETS)


  • Tamil Nadagam is not a competition.

  • All performances must be in Tamil.

  • Participants must be in the age of 6 to 16.

  • Minimum participants must be 5 and there are no restrictions on maximum participants.

  • Participant in Tamil Naadagam cannot participate in any other programs except Thirukkural, Tamil Engal Moochu and Varthai Vilaiyattu.


8.  Tamil Nadanam: (New in NETS):

      

  • Tamil Nadanam is not a competition.

  • All performances must be in Tamil.

  • Participants must be in the age of 6 to 16.

  • Dance should be based on the following (classical, semi-classical, film songs).

  • NETS gives preference to Karagattam, Kummi, Kavadi attam,Poikkal kudhirai etc.

  • No Solo allowed.

  • Minimum participants for the Tamil Nadanam are 3. No limits for maximum  

    participants.

  • Please talk with your respective Dance Teachers to perform in group.     

  • Participant group (Individual Group/Group from Dance School) will be given a slot

    of 10  minutes.

  • Participant in Tamil Nadanam cannot participate in any other programs except Thirukkural, Tamil Engal Moochu and Vaarthai Vilaiyattu.
